Genevieve Barr

  • Attorney
Fort Worth, TX
Coming from a military family, Genevieve began her legal career by focusing on social and legal issues affecting the military community and becoming certified as a Veteran’s Affairs attorney. Genevieve then expanded the focus of her practice to the area of Family Law where she has earned state recognition for excellence.
Genevieve grew up in the heart of horse country in rural south Dallas before attending high school at Ursuline Academy of Dallas. Upon graduation from high school, Genevieve enrolled in Southern Methodist University where she studied Broadcast Journalism and Cultural Anthropology. She put herself through college by working at WFAA-Channel 8, first as a production assistant, then as an associate producer where she traveled to the 2004 Republican National Convention to work as a special correspondent. After graduating from SMU with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism, Genevieve decided to pursue a degree in the legal field and began working as a legal assistant in Dallas, Texas. Genevieve attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth where she continued to work full-time as a legal assistant while pursuing her law degree.
Genevieve has litigation experience representing clients in all types of contested family cases such as divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, terminations and adoptions. Genevieve has also acted as a court appointed Guardian Ad Litem to protect the best interests of children in contested custody cases and guardianship proceedings in both private actions and CPS cases. Genevieve is excellent at discreet representation of service members facing domestic abuse accusations because she understands the implications that accusations of criminal misconduct in the civilian world can have on service members.  She is equally adept at advocating for the rights of those suffering from domestic violence.  She is a passionate advocate for keeping case details confidential and out of the public domain.
In her spare time, Genevieve volunteers for non-profit animal rescue groups where she helps care for and find "forever homes" for neglected and abandoned dogs and horses. She also enjoys training her Friesian mare, Sophia, in English riding and dressage.  Genevieve and her Navy Veteran husband, Doug, are looking forward to introducing their son to the North Texas Horse Show Circuit.
